Wow, what a birthday!

Good morning from an overcast, humid, about to rain any minute Knolltop!
I have to say I had a great birthday yesterday. Yes, it was my birthday and I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm 43 now. Of course you knew that, it's on my profile. Anyway, yesterday morning the boys showed up to finish up chores for me. I came in the house and was told to go lay down and wait for breakfast. So laying down, Bobby came in and asked if I was sick. I replied that I was following orders.....without any hesitation, I might add.

Sarah whipped up a big breakfast of pancakes, scrambled eggs, toast and coffee for the whole family. She was amazing, she messed up every dish in the kitchen and had fun doing it! After breakfast I opened my present from my creative daughter....a t-shirt she hand painted with "I'm the worlds best mom" on the front. Don't think I didn't shuck out of my barn shirt and proudly put that baby on!

As I was enjoying watching my two boys play baseball last night my phone rang and it was Mr. Kyser. He wanted to know when we would be home from the game because he and Donna had cake and ice cream waiting for me! What a surprise! I'll admit it, before that call I'd been a bit disappointed that we hadn't gorged on the first bite of birthday cake all day and the chances of getting a sugar high from too much chocolate frosting was getting me down. But I consoled myself with the wonderful birthday greetings I'd had all day from phone calls and emails of good friends and family.

We came home to a beautiful layer cake and vanilla ice cream. Now I'm getting a hankerin' for a little sugar, I'd better get this done so I can go have a piece of cake!

One more thing....I received an email from my buddy Gene VanRhee with a picture of this pretty blond girl from the Netherlands named Minke.

Apparently she was at Tim Baker's recently clipping cows. It was her debut as a fitter and her first cow only took 6 hours. I wonder if Tim is paying her by the cow or the hour?

The cow that Minke clipped didn't take her 6 hours...she clipped for 6 hours her first day and for 3 on the second day. haha

Dairy Christmas Traditions

It's not Christmas without...... Fill in the blank. Traditions are part of what builds a family and Christmas is full of them.  When you open your gifts, the dinner you create, right down to which ornament goes on what side of the tree. It's all a part of holiday traditions.  On the Knolltop, I have managed to carry on a tradition that began in my childhood, on my home farm.  Each Christmas was filled with holiday baking.  My mom and sister would begin baking and end with pretty packages filled with home made goodies to give away to friends and relatives. Among those baked goods were Chocolate Peanut Butter Balls originating from the local church cookbook published in the late 70's. My sister made those one year and we haven't missed a year since.  While the recipe originated to us in 1976, the tattered recipe card is from the late 80s when wrote a copy for myself when I moved out on my own. Big bucks spent at Butlerview Sale

Good morning from the Knolltop . It's balmy here! When we went across the road at 4:30 this morning it was 45 out and the temp is climbing...yes it smells and feels like spring and I love it....but I know it won't last. Because no one else on the web has decided to report on it, I will give a tidbit of the Butlerview Parade of Perfection Sale that happened last weekend in Elkhorn Wisconsin. The sale averaged $19,845 on 124 lots and the sale gross was....are you ready.....sit down for this one.....$2,460,800.00! Amazing isn't it? There were buyers from 23 states and Canada and the high seller was Lot 8 at $190,000 purchased by Triple Crown Genetics, Kingsmill Farm & Gene Iager . The next highest consignment was Lot 1 at $155,000 purchased by David Ludwig of Illinois and the third highest was Lot 46 at $96,000 and Mike Garrow & Gerald Todd went home with that bargain.
