Good morning from the Knolltop. It's balmy here! When we went across the road at 4:30 this morning it was 45 out and the temp is climbing...yes it smells and feels like spring and I love it....but I know it won't last.
Because no one else on the web has decided to report on it, I will give a tidbit of the Butlerview Parade of Perfection Sale that happened last weekend in Elkhorn Wisconsin. The sale averaged $19,845 on 124 lots and the sale gross was....are you ready.....sit down for this one.....$2,460,800.00! Amazing isn't it?
There were buyers from 23 states and Canada and the high seller was Lot 8 at $190,000 purchased by Triple Crown Genetics, Kingsmill Farm & Gene Iager.
The next highest consignment was Lot 1 at $155,000 purchased by David Ludwig of Illinois and the third highest was Lot 46 at $96,000 and Mike Garrow & Gerald Todd went home with that bargain.
Apparently it was a high intensity sale with well over 800 people in attendance. I just wish I had pictures to go along with this...those are to come later this week. My photographer hasn't checked in yet.

Okay, please tell me there is more than one cow in each lot. That's a lot of money.
We're in the thick of bull sale season around here. My husband is in the market for one or two black Angus bulls, and as the farm financial advisor, I'm hopeful that the market is a little softer than what the dairy market apparently is!
What were those lots if you don't mind my asking? I don't have any way that i can find to see them.
Whoa that is amazing! Reminds me of when I first married my husband and investors were big into Holstein cattle. We went to Canada to see Brookview tony Charity sell and the price was staggering.
I've had enough people tell me I should go to Melissa's blog and explain the prices on our sale Saturday, that I decided I should she her blog in person. The Parade of Perfection Sale on Saturday, March 1st was the highest grossing Holstein Sale in the last 24 years. So these are not your average dairy cattle.
Jeff Butler, the owner, has spent a lot of time, travel and expense in putting together the genetics that we sold. For instance, one cow family (Chief Adeen) is the only cow family I know that can boast that in the last 5 generations there has been at least one Unanimous All-American in each generation. That's like a family having 5 generations of a Miss America in each of the 5 generations and every judge voting each one of them as their first choice.
Please should understand, these are not your average dairy cattle and their value is determined by thier ability to sell embryos and male and female offspring anywhere in the world. The cattle offered were the best to be found anywhere in North America and that's why the crowd came and why they were so well received by the over 1,000 potential buyers present.

My friend and I were recently discussing about the prevalence of technology in our day to day lives. Reading this post makes me think back to that debate we had, and just how inseparable from electronics we have all become.
I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Ethical concerns aside... I just hope that as memory becomes less expensive, the possibility of uploading our memories onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's one of the things I really wish I could see in my lifetime.
